Consumer Abuse Awareness

If you are thinking about a career in supporting people with disabilities or are already a professional in the field, this will be an invaluable presentation for you. You will learn how to support people to protect themselves from abuse, the types of abuse, the statistics of abuse, and the necessary steps stop the cycle of abuse. You will hear from people with disabilities on how they want to be supported and will help you see how people with disabilities are just like everyone else. This class also includes excerpts from the Ring of Safety by Dave Hingsburger.

Get Fit!

Looking for a good workout to do at home? Rhonda Nelson, Shasta College fitness instructor, has created a program designed to shape, tone, destress and help you GET FIT! Her popular classes are now taught online through private links to YouTube videos so you can work out at home at a time that is convenient for you!

Each class in this series combines simple cardio, strength training, and yoga/pilates for a complete body workout - and no need to worry about your fitness level, as Rhonda shows you options to suit your individual needs. Each video showcases beautiful scenery, and Rhonda has created more of her "theme based" videos, set to different music and backdrops of the decades that will have you smiling and singing along! 

Recommended materials: dumbbells, yoga mat or rug. Must have access to the Internet.

Links to two videos will be released each Monday for 15 weeks, beginning August 23, 2021.

Feeling Safe, Being Safe

Emergencies happen when we least expect them. Knowing what to do in advance so you can react quickly allows people to feel safer and be more prepared during an emergency. Feeling Safe, Being Safe teaches you what you need to know to prepare yourself, your family and your pets for an emergency evacuation. You will learn how to pack a “Go Bag” and the other steps you can take now to ease the stress of an emergency evacuation. You will also learn important insurance information for renters and homeowners, the three levels of evacuation and the importance of planning now. This class was designed for people with disabilities, but it is useful to anyone concerned with being prepared during an emergency.

Meditation for Health

Abuse Prevention

Abuse is a violation of the right we all have to healthy, supportive and safe relationships. The Center for Disease Control reports that approximately 1.3 million women are physically abused each year in the United States. People with disabilities have the highest rates of abuse. In this class, you will learn how to protect yourself and others from abuse. This interactive class also teaches you what abuse is, types of abuse, how to spot an abuser, and how to set personal boundaries so that you can protect yourself from abuse. You will also learn how to report abuse if it happens to you or someone else. This class is designed for people with disabilities, but provides valuable information about abuse for everyone.

Chinese Medicine: Ancient Medicine for Modern Health

Arguably, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the most ancient medicine continuously in use in the world. Join Dr. Levings in this brief survey of the historical development of TCM into its current form; its five branches of treatment, including acupuncture; and the role it might play in your health restoration and maintenance. By the end of this course, the student will:

1. Have an introductory knowledge of the difference between Chinese medicine and western medicine.

2. Have a basic idea of how Chinese medicine and western medicine might be integrated for best outcomes.

3. Be able to independently practice the QiGong exercise Opening the Four Gates of Energy.

Shotokan Karate - Session 3

Shotokan Karate is the authentic traditional karate for the mind, body and spirit!! Don’t miss Shotokan Karate for teens and adults. Get stronger physically and mentally!! This class focuses on Basics including stances, blocks, punches, kicks and Kata (pre-arranged fighting forms). Instructors are Hiroko Mori (5th Degree Black Belt) and Brad Marsh (4th Degree Black Belt) of Shotokan Karate of America. For men, women and youths ages 10 and up.

Dates: October 28 - December 16, 2021 (no class 11/11, 11/22 & 11/25)
