Computer Summer Camp (Virtual) - Javascript Game Design Package 11+

with Simply Coding

3 Week package

The following camps need the students to commit for all 3 weeks

WEEK 1: JAVASCRIPT GAME DESIGN Have you ever wanted to code your own games and share them with others? This course teaches you how to code games using JavaScript and play them in a web browser. The lessons assume no prior coding experience and will walk you through coding your own pong game and fish game! Each lesson will introduce a new JavaScript concept using fun interactions. Next, you will practice your JavaScript in a little in-browser text editor. Last, you’ll be ready to follow a step by step activity to add new code to your game, saved to a workspace on your computer. This course will be using Sublime Text as the coding editor to write all your JavaScript code! Start learning how to code in JavaScript

DATE: M-Fri  JUL 12 - 16, 2021 10:00am to 12:00pm

WEEK 2: JAVASCRIPT GAME DESIGN The fun continues as you dive deeper into JavaScript. Students will be learning new JavaScript techniques as they code their own side scrolling Mario style game! Learn coding concepts to have your player, jump, shoot lasers, avoid enemies and more as you create full playable levels. This week will better prepare you for the game design competition when you code and create your own custom game!

DATE: M-Fri JUL 19 - 23, 2021 10:00am to 12:00pm

WEEK 3: JAVASCRIPT GAME DESIGN COMPETITION Now that the students have coded three separate games they have the knowledge and resources to start their own custom JavaScript browser game! Students will go through a planning stage, design stage and then a coding stage as they see their custom game come to life. The games will be judged on a point system, awarding points for completing various criteria of the competition. There will be multiple fun prizes for all the winners!

DATE: M-Fri JUL 26 - 30, 2021 10:00am to 12:00pm

Each course will have its own needed virtual ‘workspace’ that will include everything needed to complete the lessons. The software within the workspace is always free and will be installed on the computer. The first lesson of each course walks them through how to setup their workspace. As for hardware. Each computer should have 2GB RAM and at least 10GB of free hard drive space. Students need to use either Mac or Windows computers, no iPads or tablets as they don’t support the needed software to setup your workspace. Chromebooks may be used only for the following courses: Scratch Coding, Coding for N00BS, & JavaScript Game Designs (all JavaScript courses).
