Dance - West Coast Swing

West Coast Swing

One of the most popular and universal dances in the world!!  Danced to a variety of different musical tastes:  Blues; Swing; Pop; Country & Jazz!  Fun and easy to learn.  By the end of the class you’ll not only have mastered the basics, but you’ll be impressing your friends on any dance floor you’re on! This class will cover the critical dance skills of body-movement; lead & follow; frame; connection; dance-etiquette; and foot-placement in the West Coast Dance.  Additionally, class-members will learn side-passes, sugar-pushes, turns, whips, and West Coast styling.  Furthermore, class-members will learn a specific amalgamation of moves that they can use in any West Coast Dance that they attempt.

NOTE: you are not required to sign up with a partner. If you do not have a partner one may be assigned to you for those dances that need a partner. 

IMPORTANT: if you do have a partner they too must register for the class. The fee of $69 is a 'per person' rate, not a couples rate.

Aqua Aerobics

Aqua Aerobics 

Water aerobics is a fun way for adults to stay active and fit. It’s also easier on your joints than doing a traditional gym workout and can even help relieve nagging aches and pains. Doing water aerobics has multiple health benefits. Exercising in water can strengthen your muscles and joints without putting stress on them. You’ll get your heart rate up but the water will keep you cool and comfortable while you work out.  This engaging class is done through water exercises with jumping, leaping, running, and fun exercises with water noodles. Come and have lots of fun exercising and socializing in the heated Shasta College pool. This class is for participants at any skill level.  

A water noodle will be provided however, if you prefer to bring your own please feel free to do so.

Aqua Aerobics - Deep Water Aerobic Training

Aqua Jogging – Deep Water Aerobic Training

This class is a cross training and rehabilitation method using low impact resistance training which can produce aerobic results, improve full range of motion, increase strength, all without impacting joints.  Participants wear a buoyancy belt also called an Aqua Jogger belt and move in various running motions suspended in deep water. 

Note: The Aqua Jogger belt helps to keep the participant suspended and upright in the water, but it does not have the support of a life jacket; and therefore, this activity is not advised for the unskilled swimmer.

IMPORTANT:  Each participant will need to bring their own aqua jogger belt appropriate for their individual level of buoyancy.  They can be found online. Prices will vary, $35 and up depending on source.

Country & Western 2-Step

The all-time classic popular country & western dance that is danced all over the World!  By the end of the class you’ll not only have learned the basics of this classic country dance, you’ll have learned a variety of impressive moves that will make this a fun & exciting dance that you and your partner will enjoy whenever you go dancing!  It’s easy to learn and fun to do!  This class will concentrate on teaching you the secrets of good 2-step dancing.  You’ll learn how to move on the dance floor like the pros.  You’ll learn the critical dance skills of body-movement; lead and follow; frame; connection; dance-etiquette; turns; and foot-placement in the 2-step.  Additionally, class-members will learn a specific amalgamation of moves that they can use in any 2-step dance that they attempt.

SHOTOKAN KARATE

Shotokan Karate is the authentic traditional karate for the mind, body and spirit!! Don’t miss Shotokan Karate for teens and adults. Get stronger physically and mentally!! This class focuses on Basics including stances, blocks, punches, kicks and Kata (pre-arranged fighting forms). Instructors are Hiroko Mori (5th Degree Black Belt) and Brad Marsh (4th Degree Black Belt) of Shotokan Karate of America. For men, women and youths ages 13 and up. This is a 4-week session. 

Dates: August 15 - September 15, 2022 (no class Labor Day week)

LLI - HIST 320 Ancient Societies and Their People

HIST 320 Ancient Societies and Their People - Section: F5861 (non-credit)

This non-credit course will explore how ancient history is more than a list of famous people and events to memorize. Students will discover the rich history of ancient societies around the world and use evidence found in documents, archaeology, environmental analysis, studies of linguistics, oral histories, art and music to create a comparative survey of ancient people and their lives. This course will focus on different civilizations and themes in ancient history to explore contemporary connections and how the past impacts our world today. This class is designed for older adults with a lifetime of personal experience and encourages creative expression to enhance personal global involvement through the study of ancient world history. This course may be offered in a distance education format.

NOTE: This class is not just for seniors. This class is open to the general community - for attendees of all ages.

Incident Safety Awareness for Hired Vendors

At times when the equipment needed to control an emergency incident exceeds the resources of CALFIRE and the Federal Wildland Fire Agencies, the agencies hire the equipment and services of the private sector to supplement its own resources. Any private contractor or person employed by a private contractor who desires to participate in a wildland fire and may be subject to assignment on the fire line must complete annual training.

The intent of this 8-hour course is to provide private "hired equipment vendors" with the minimum training necessary to satisfy CALFIRE and the Federal Wildland Fire Agencies generic hiring requirements for hired equipment vendors. Typical assignments include: Dozer Operator, Water Tender Operator, tree faller etc.This course covers topics such as: Fire Behavior, Fireline Safety, Organizational Control, Firefighting Terms, the use of Fire Shelters, and other fire related subjects.

This course does not provide training or certify anyone on the use of specific types of equipment and is not intended to attest to the ability of anyone to utilize equipment.Students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate from the California Office of the State Fire Marshal. This course is part of the Fire Service Training and Education Program. The course fee includes the cost of the certificate and student text.

NOTE: If you have been issued a State Fire Training Identification Number, bring it with you to the class.

IMPORTANT: Due to planning requirements, pre-registration is required.

NOTE: There is no food service available on campus on the weekends. Please feel free to bring a cooler with beverage and food enough to get you through the day. You do receive a 1-hour lunch break so you can go off campus to local fast food locations, however, for your convenience, feel free to bring whatever food and beverage you need for the day. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be aware that Shasta College is a smoke-free campus. There is no smoking or vaping allowed on campus. 

Parking Permits are not needed on the weekends.

Enjoy a complete body workout at home at a time that is convenient for you!  You will receive links to at least two of Rhonda's popular Get Fit! videos each Monday for 8 weeks.  Each video is approximately 45 minutes long.  The sessions are designed for all fitness levels and offer you a complete workout with cardio, toning, strengthening, stretching and relaxation techniques.  We do it all!  Set to fun music and beautiful backdrops, you will find yourself coming back for more! Internet access is required for links to YouTube.  Recommended materials:  Dumbbells and a yoga mat or rug.
